Home Based Business-Niche Business

Home Based Businesses may be just the ticket for those that are tired of the daily commute to an office, stay at home parents (notice I didn’t say Mom’s), and retired individuals. Statistics show over the last 10 years more and more people have chosen to start a business from their home.  In 2011, over 19 million Americans worked at home, an increase from 16.5 million in 2008, and over 12% of the households in the country currently operate a home-based business.

There are many types of businesses that can be run right out of the comfort of your home.  You can provide a service such as a plumbing business, sell products online, or do consulting right out of your home. eBay is a great way for someone wishing to work from home to start a home based business. Look around your house and see what you don’t need and sell it on eBay. Once you learn the in’s and out’s expand to locating a profitable product you would like to sell and start selling it.

Another great home business is working as an affiliate marketer for companies. Refer people to another businesses online store, recommend someone else’s product to a friend or family member, or set up a review site for a particular product and steer customers to that product. When the customer purchases the products you referred from your site or by word of mouth you get paid. You don’t work for the company, you are like their personal marketing departing. Check out more on Affiliate Marketing in the “Affiliate Marketing” category on this site.

I know of people that work from home and love it.  No overhead involved with a brick-and-mortar store, no cost for a babysitter, and the convenience of working the hours they need to manage home-life and work life. No worries of lay-offs. It’s a win-win situation for most.

If you have the desire and motivation to start a business where you can work directly out of your home then go for it. I recommend it to anyone wishing to be their own boss, work the hours they desire, make a lucrative income, and have control over how the business is managed.

Make sure you review all information you can find on starting a home based business before you decide to do it.  But DO IT!

Started a New Niche Business

It’s been awhile for any new post because I have been very busy. I’ve started a new niche business in a niche that is familiar to some and not to others. It’s in Direct Marketing. Yep some folks view Direct Marketing businesses as pyramid schemes because they are multi-level marketing companies. Those I believe are the ill informed.

Of course whenever I look for a new niche business I do a lot of research, sometimes to the detriment of the start up. With any business you should research the business for viability and sustainability. I found both in this Direct Marketing Company which by the way is the 2nd largest Direct Selling Company in the global market.

What is really cool about me becoming an Independent Business Owner with this company is I remember this company when I was little. At that time it was door to door sales. I was reminiscing with my sister about it while others looked on in amusement that we talked about companies going door to door to sell the products.

That kind of ages me doesn’t it. Oh well, wiser for it.

I started researching on the internet and reading the negative and positive reviews about this company and find more positive than negative. Some who are negative did not find the benefit of the business opportunity. When you expect a “Get Rich” scheme and it doesn’t materialize as you expect you become negative and will trash the company. What I see from the sales, products, partners, mission statement, and success stories it turns the negative into a positive. Don’t get me wrong, I am a realist and do not believe everything is roses but I know from my experience in creating niche businesses that you have to put forth an effort, time, and money to make a business successful.

When I created Turbalo Golf Clubs for Women I can guarantee it was not a success at the beginning. Countless hours and work went into that business before I could call it a success with its third year in business having sales of over $250K. Hmmmm……not bad…not bad….at all.

Another thing recommended when starting a niche business is to know your product, use your products, become familiar with your products, and believe in your products. This I have done. I use some of the products, experienced the benefit of these products, am familiar with the products, and believe in the products. Now I can recommend to family and friends with some type of authority.

Well enough said on my new niche business. Let me now tell you what it is. It’s Amway.  Yep, the company that in my time when I was a child came door to door. Funny to think of those days without the internet.

Feel free to ask me about my new business. Feel free to visit my Amway website and explore the products and the possibilities of an Independent Business Owner.  www.Amway.com/jpshop.  I am nearing retirement and have to have something to do and this is right up my alley.

MLM and Niche Business

What is MLM? MLM stands for Multilevel Marketing. According to en.wikiepedia.org: MLM is designed to create a marketing and sales force by compensating promoters of company products not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of other promoters they introduce to the company, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation in the form of a pyramid.

Many think of MLM’s as a “pyramid” and associate that with illegal dealings. Some MLM’s are not what the doctored order and those are called “pyramid schemes or ponzi schemes”. However most MLM’s are just an extension of a companies marketing division.

Think about a typical business structure. You have the Business. Then you have the Marketing Department. In the marketing department you have sales associates that are employed by the company. Their job is to sell the product or service to customers for the company. The sales associates are paid a set salary and benefit by the company no matter how successful they are or are not in acquiring customers.

Now think of an MLM structure. You have the Business. The business has a marketing department. The marketing department’s purpose is to acquire independent associates who in turn acquire customers for the business. The customers acquired results in revenue for the company. The associates are paid based on the revenue generated from the customers.

If the independent associate does not acquire customers they are not paid. However if the independent associate grows their customer base resulting in more revenue and then expands their downline of independent associates who grow their customer base the profits can be very handsome. The benefit to the independent associate is the potential for a lucrative income. The benefit to the company is low overhead and no expense of a traditional marketing department with a set number of associates employed by the company. With independent associates no benefits or salaries are paid. The independent associate in an MLM is driven by shear income potential. The more associates in their downline and the larger the customers base the larger the income potential.

Is this a good idea for a starting a niche business? It can be. Most MLM’s already have an established system if followed can be profitable to the marketing associate. But there are no guarantees. There is work involved and most new entrepreneurs are not good fits for MLM’s. MLM’s are not a “Get Rich” quick scheme which many naïve entrepreneurs are looking for.

A few examples of well-known MLM companies are Pampered Chef, Pre-Paid Legal, Mary Kay, Amway, and Avon. Most people don’t realize these companies are MLM companies. What these companies have in common are they a direct selling business or they sell directly to consumers through independent business owners.

The Top 5 Global Ranked Direct Selling Company in 2011 was Avon, Amway, Herbalite, Natura Cosmeticos SA, Vorwek & Co. KG, with Mary Kay and Tupperware coming in at 6th place and 7th place respectfully.

Some of these you may have heard of some not. Two of the companies in the top 5 globally are from Germany and Brazil. Either way you look at it if you are not considering a Direct Selling Company as a potential Income Opportunity you are cutting yourself short.

With any business you need to be passionate about the business. If you love Avon products but hate to conduct home parties, talk to people, and handle the orders then that obviously is not the right business for you. Most people who introduce you to a business opportunity are family, friends, and neighbors. If it sounds great but you don’t believe the opportunity is for you just say so. They’ll understand.

When considering any business venture you must research the business and be willing to do a lot of work in making your business successful. There are really no free rides but there are great opportunities. Don’t miss out from fear of the initials “MLM“.

The 6 Worst Work From Home Business Opportunities Of All Time

Most people would truly enjoy the right work from home business opportunities… the kind of opportunities that could make you real money without the hassle and fuss of commuting, bad bosses, and office politics. Unfortunately, though, there are individuals who try to exploit this knowledge for their own gain.

Here are the 6 biggest rip-off work from home business opportunities of all time:

1. Medical Billing

With the rising cost of health care and the large bureaucratic insurance companies, medical billing seems like it should have a lot of potential to make you some serious money. The truth, however, is that very few doctors do their own billing anymore.

The first issue, though, is that you need a license to be a medical biller in most states. Secondly, doctors outsource their medical billing to companies, not individuals. So any money you have to pay upfront for software and training to be a medical biller? You can kiss it goodbye…

2. A List Of Companies Looking For Home Workers…

If only you could buy a list of companies who are looking for hard-working and dedicated people just like yourself to do some tasks in the comfort of your home that they will pay you for… Well, you can!

Only it will be a generic list of companies that don’t do this sort of thing. Because no real company hires workers like this. So save your money – don’t buy the list.

3. Typing At Home

If you have any form of computer skills at all, it would seem that a typing at home position would be a great work from home business opportunity.

Unfortunately, though, the only typing you would be doing is to try and place ads to convince more people to type at home for money. Essentially, you are just perpetuating the scam!

4. Email Processing

Imagine if you could earn $10 for every email you sent… I bet you could send 25 emails an hour for a very long time. Unfortunately, though, is that email processing is very similar to the “Envelope Stuffing” scam below.

And just like the “Typing at Home” scam above, in order to make any money from home, you would only be sending emails in order to get more people to sign up to process emails!

5. 1-900 Numbers

1-900 numbers cost money to dial. The longer the scammer can keep you on the line once you call, the more money they make off of you. Do not call any 1-900 numbers.

6. Envelope Stuffing

This is, perhaps, the most recognizable work from home scam of all time. You are promised to make $.50 – $1.00 per envelope you stuff! Never mind that machines can do this menial task 500 times faster than the average human…

These are the 6 biggest scam work from home business opportunities out there. This does not mean that all opportunities are bad, however. In fact, there are plenty of real work from home business opportunities… and there are lots of people who make a great income from the work they do at home. These 6 examples are just the ones you need to avoid! As with anything, you need to take the time to evaluate a work from home offer on its merits and avoid opportunities like the ones above.
